Clear. Accurate. Immediate.
FEES provides real-time, on-site diagnostic information with assessments typically completed in just 15–20 minutes. Treating speech-language pathologists receive immediate diet recommendations and preliminary diagnostic impressions on the day of the evaluation. Comprehensive reports—including color images and video upon request—are typically delivered within 48 hours, ensuring fast, clear, and clinically actionable results.
FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) is a cost-efficient alternative to MBSS/VFSS by eliminating several hidden and indirect expenses often associated with radiologic assessments. Unlike MBSS, which requires patient transport to an external facility—incurring costs related to ambulance or van services, radiology suite usage, and loss of valuable therapy time—FEES is performed on-site, minimizing disruption to patient care.
FEES is billed as a flat rate per assessment, with no surprise or additional charges to the facility. Furthermore, it adheres to Medicare consolidated billing guidelines, allowing facilities to bill the patient’s insurance directly for the service. This creates a transparent, predictable, and financially sound approach to dysphagia assessment, all while maintaining high clinical accuracy and convenience.
FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) has consistently demonstrated sensitivity equal to or greater than MBSS/VFSS in identifying aspiration risk, diagnosing pharyngeal pathologies, and determining the safest and most appropriate diet levels for patients. As a bedside procedure, FEES eliminates the need for radiation exposure, making it a safer option—especially for medically fragile patients or those requiring frequent reassessment.
Unlike MBSS, FEES provides a high-definition, color, real-time view of swallowing physiology, including secretion management—an essential component often missed by radiographic studies. Its ability to directly visualize pharyngeal function with exceptional clarity makes it a highly sensitive and effective instrumental assessment for evaluating swallowing disorders.

A signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and Professional Service Agreement (PSA) must be on file for all facilities and agencies we service.
Once those agreements are in place, scheduling a FEES assessment requires:
A signed physician referral, and
A completed patient intake form
All required forms are available on our website or can be provided via email upon request.
